Psychoanalytical societies that have supported our conferences


Norwegian Psychoanalytical Society Norsk psykoanalytisk forening was associated with The International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) in 1934. It was dissolved during the German occupation, but was reestablished shortly after the war. Again associated with the IPA in 1975.

Danish Psychoanalytical Society Dansk Psykoanalytisk Selskab was formed in 1957 as a Component Society of The International Psychoanalytical Association, IPA. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007.

Swedish Psychoanalytical Association Svenska psykoanalytiska föreningen was founded on the 3rd of May 2010 through a fusion between the Swedish Psychoanalytical Association and the Swedish Psychoanalytical Society.

British Psychoanalytical Society The London Psychoanalytical Society was founded by Ernest Jones on 30th October 1913. It was renamed the British Psychoanalytical Society in 1919.

Spanish Psychoanalytical Society Sociedad Española de Psicoanálisis has been a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) since 1959. It is a scientific society whose task is to develop and promote the diffusion of psychoanalysis. It is also responsible for the training of psychoanalysts through The Institute of Psychoanalysis of Barcelona (IPB), and in accordance with the standards set by the IPA.

Vienna Psychoanalytic Society Wiener Psychoanalytische Vereinigung, (WPV), is the oldest psychoanalytic society in the world, founded by Sigmund Freud in 1908 and a member of the The International Psychoanalytical Association, IPA.

Paris Psychoanalytical Society Société Psychanalytique de Paris (SPP) is the oldest psychoanalytical organisation in France. Founded with Freud’s endorsement in 1926, the S.P.P. is a component member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (I.P.A.) as well as of the European Federation of Psychoanalysis (E.F.P.).

Portuguese Psychoanalytical Society Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicanálise (SPP) became a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) in 1981. In Portugal the (local) designation of Society of Psychoanalysis was given in 1971.

Free Associations is a peer-reviewed open access journal on the non-clinical aspects of psychoanalysis and related psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy, groups, politics, institutions, media and culture. Editors: Caroline Bainbridge and Candida Yates.

Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society is the official journal of the Association for the Psychoanalysis of Culture & Society. The journal critically addresses the intersection between psychoanalysis and the social world and explores the roles psychoanalysis might play in bringing about social justice and progressive social change.

Psychoanalysis & History is devoted both to the study of the history of psychoanalysis and the application of psychoanalytic ideas to historiography, thus forming a bridge between the academic study of history and psychoanalysis.

The Journal of Psycho-Social Studies is an established International e-Journal dedicated to publishing scholarly articles, works in progress, new ideas and book reviews in the field  of Psycho-Social Studies. The Journal contains papers focusing on psychoanalysis, philosophy, group relations, politics and sociology, arts-based research and interventions, social practices and cross disciplinary studies. Edited by  Elizabeth Frost and David Jones.

THALASSA is the journal of the Sándor Ferenczi Society, Budapest. An interdisciplinary journal devoted to free investigations in psychoanalysis, culture and society. Thalassa has roots in the historical traditions of Hungarian psychoanalysis, but is not committed to any particular school or authority. The journal welcomes all original contributions, historical, theoretical, or critical, dealing with the common problems of psychoanalysis and the humanities.Editors: Tihamér Bakó, Antal Bókay, Ferenc Erős (editor-in-chief), György Péter Hárs, György Hidas, Robert Kramer, Judit Mészáros, Júlia Vajda.

Groups and organisations with related interests
Association for the Psychoanalysis of Culture and Society is  an international organization whose members are devoted to analyzing aesthetic, social, cultural, and political situations through various psychoanalytic lenses. Based in the USA. Co-chairs: Marilyn Charles and Michael O’Loughlin.

Association for Psychosocial Studies seeks to promote the field of Psychosocial Studies and to challenge the often rigid disciplinary distinctions that characterise the social sciences and the humanities in the contemporary university. Based in the UK.

Sociology, Psychoanalysis and the Psychosocial Study Group provides a forum for anyone interested in the relationship between sociology and psychoanalysis and the sociological investigation of the psychosocial. Based in the UK, linked with the British Sociological Association.
